Event Details

As you know, the Social Assistance Review Commission recently released a discussion paper for community feedback, as part of its on-going task of reviewing the province’s social assistance system, with an eye to recommendations in its final report due early in 2012.  To facilitate this dialogue with the community, Social Planning Toronto has made arrangements to hold a member’s forum, which the commissioners have been invited to attend.

The forum will be held as follows :

When:   Thursday, July 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

WhereHoliday Inn Toronto Downtown Centre (Wellesley Room)

30  Carlton Street (one block west of College/Yonge)

This forum was specially arranged in response to requests from members for an opportunity to get directly involved in the community dialogue about this very important issue.  We’re sorry about the short notice, but this was the best time available when everything was taken into consideration -  especially challenges of scheduling in the peak of the summer vacation period.  I’m pleased to say that the two commissioners, Frances Lankin and Munir Sheik, have confirmed that they will be joining us for the discussion and to provide a few comments as well.

As space is limited, please register as soon as possible, either online or by contacting Mary Micallef at 416-351-0095 ext 251 or mmicallef@socialplanningtoronto.org.

To facilitate an informed and productive discussion, please take a little time to read the attached documents.  Five themes are highlighted in the Commission’s discussion paper.  Please familiarize yourself with them as we’ll be organizing discussion tables based on these themes.  We’ll do our best to ensure you have an opportunity to discuss, at very least, the top two themes that are of most interest or concern to you.
